President Tony's Year

Presidential Handover.President Tony & IPP Hedley

Our Dinner Meeting on Thursday the 7th of July held at the Forest Hills Hotel saw our new President, Tony Cervenka, take up office.

Once he had formally presented his 5 Club officers and 6 Committee Chairmen to the members present, he briefly outlined his ideas on the forthcoming year advising that he would want the Club to continue its support for Local, National and International Charities, Projects and Initiatives.

However, not wishing to take up too much time and use too many words to describe his thoughts and considerations with respect to what lay ahead, he simply urged all Club members to Just Do It as far as future Club activities were concerned.

Clearly pleased with his appointment, President Tony wearing his Chain of Office is seen here with the Immediate Past President Hedley Greaves.

President's Lunch.

President's AddresssPresident's LunchPresident's lunch

Sunday the 7th of August saw President Tony and his wife Daniela greet some 75 guests to his Presidential Lunch. This year, as with other years, the weather was really kind and everyone enjoyed a wonderful afternoon, which this year was spent at Bett and Reg Crowthers home in Kingsley.

The sumptuous buffet lunch was complemented with Champagne and red wine from the Czech Republic, that was brought over specially for this celebration Lunch, along with an Australian white wine and of course other appropriate non-alcoholic beverages for the drivers! As expected, the cask of Weetwood Eastgate beer was well received and dispatched appropriately.

President Tony formally thanked all those who had made this Lunch so enjoyable and finished by presenting to Bett and Reg a present as a token of his and Danielas thanks for making their home available for the day.

The day was made even more memorable for President Tony as a result of England beating Australia by two runs in the 2nd Ashes Test at Edgebaston!

p.s. President Tony hates cricket!

Annual Cricket Match.Our Ringer

It was quite fitting that our annual cricket match with our good friends in the Rotary Club of Northwich Vale Royal coincided with the 5th day of the 3rd Ashes Test at Old Trafford in Manchester where the Test was drawn. (Four highly talented teams playing at the same time dont you know).

Our teams expectations were initially high but promptly dashed as our Captain, Frank Ball, was late arriving and so his understrapper assistant, Malcolm Davies, began by losing the toss hence we were destined to bat in the dark!

Despite the presence of many wonderfully talented cricketers who had honed themselves to perfection ready for this game, it was not long before the agreed rules associated with Wide Balls was amended for diplomatic reasons!

This being said, the match produced oh-so many memorable moments, none of which it is regretted spring to mind readily, however at stumps, Northwich Vale Royals fine total was not able to be overhauled by our gallant team, hence we lost! Following a tasty and extensive buffet meal President Tony, who is an avid follower of cricket, closed the evening firstly by thanking Alvanley Cricket Club for the use of their facilities, with a special thanks to Fred Noden , the bar staff, and helpers. Also thanks were heaped onto Eddy Basnet, one of our newest Club members, who single handedly organised this very successful event.

Lastly to the Victors, the Trophy, with next year being eagerly awaited.
