Frodsham and Helsby is located on the A56 road mid-way between Chester and Warrington, overlooking the Mersey estuary and Liverpool beyond, while to the south and east lies Delamere Forest and the Cheshire Plain. Total population of Frodsham is estimated at 9,000 with Helsby , Kingsley and adjoining areas being around 7,000. The area has been transformed during the last hundred years from mostly an agricultural community, to a predominately professional workforce as a consequence of its proximity to Chester, Runcorn, Warrington and Manchester. Major manufacturing industries in the area are the Essar refinery (formerly Shell) and INEOS Chlor Ltd.(formerly ICI).
The membership of the Rotary Club reflects the area, with the humble agricultural members mixing happily with their professional colleagues. Accountants and Bankers rub shoulders with those from the Legal, Medical and Teaching Professions, and the Food and Construction Industries. The club has 48 members and since a fair proportion are former Round Tablers the meetings are lively without being anarchic, respectful to speakers if not always to the President!
In 2005 our club was twinned with the Rotary Club of Hradec Kralove in the Czech Republic. Since then there have been many reciprocal visits between both club members and young people from the respective areas.
The club involves itself locally by helping at the annual Four Villages Half Marathon in Helsby, supporting the Life Education caravan, and helping in the local High School with PSHE support. The Club helps in the Helsby Family Fun Day and organises the Frodsham Festival in the Park. Its most successful fund-raising events are the annual Sportsman's Dinner, Car Boot Sale and Classic Car Show.
However, the basis of all thriving Rotary Clubs is Fellowship, and all visiting Rotarians and guests can be assured of a friendly hospitable welcome when visiting our club. Get in touch with us by e-mailing the Hon Secretary using the link below.
