Presidential Handover 2007.
Our Dinner Meeting on Thursday the 5th of July, held at the Forest Hills Hotel, saw the handover of Office from President Malcolm to our Club’s new President, Barry.
This year, as last year, the meeting was made slightly different to those previously, in so much as in attendance was Maggie Davies the wife of the outgoing President along with Carol Linaker the wife of the incoming President who were accompanied by Jean Davies the President of the Inner Wheel Club of Frodsham & Helsby. Also in attendance was the Mayor of Frodshan, Councillor John Maddock who, for his year in Office, becomes an Honorary Member of our Club.
The formalities began with outgoing President Malcolm firstly thanking Club members, family and friends for their support and help during his year of office. He concluded by wishing Barry a successful year in charge of a wonderfully vibrant and exciting Rotary Club. His year then ended as he formally handed over the Chain of Office to our new President, Barry.
Once Barry had formally presented his 5 Club officers and 6 Committee Chairmen to the members present, he briefly outlined his ideas on the forthcoming year advising that above all he would want Club members to enjoy being a member of the Rotary movement, but most of all enjoy and be proud of being a member of the Rotary Club of Frodsham and Helsby. He also confirmed that he would wish the Club to continue with its support for Local, National and International Charities, Projects and Initiatives just as in years before.
Not wishing to prolong the formalities longer than was necessary, he ended his presentation by simply urging all Club members to “Enjoy the coming year” as far as all future Club activities were concerned.
Our photo shows President Barry, happy with the presentation of our Club’s Charter Certificate, Honorary Membership of our twin club of Hradec Králové in the Czech Republic and other weighty trappings of office with IPP Malcolm more than pleased to be relieved of them.
Barry, Have a Great Year in Office.
Helsby High Schools “Enterprise Challenge”.
On Tuesday the 10th and Wednesday the 11th of July, Creative Learning Events Ltd., a Company based in Yorkshire, once again held an “Enterprise Challenge” at Helsby High School.
Our Club members, Richard Brook, Brian Henshaw and Malcolm Davies went along to Helsby High School to join several other members of local businesses who agreed to help with this event.
This Enterprise Challenge, held over a total of two days, involves some 250 pupils and HHS Staff and draws together Teams of 10 pupils, under the guidance of a representative from local businesses and a school Teacher, and is directed towards helping develop students understanding of the world of Business.
On this occasion, the Project everyone was involved in was -
- a) The Planning of a “New Band”
- b) The recruitment of the Band members.
- c) The promoting of the Band’s records and performances, and
- d) Ensuring the Band proves profitable.
The day is designed to increase the pupils understanding of skills such as decision making, planning, organization, communication, team-working, meeting deadlines, risk taking …… to name but a few!
Suffice it to say that both days went remarkably well and feedback from ALL pupils that were involved showed that the event was found interesting, stimulating and most enjoyable, as can be seen from our photograph that shows a “Team” presenting their work in front of the panel of judges and the rest of their year.
As far as our Club members were concerned, they enjoyed the day so much that they recommend that next year, when the event is hopefully run again, other Club members should give consideration to going along and lending their support to this wonderful Community based event, just as we have done in previous years.
Mouldsworth Motor Museum
On the 19th July we were treated to a Guest Speaker, known to some of us as Mr. Mouldsworth Motor Museum, namely James Peacop, who gave us a very unusual insight into his job, and a brief history of the museum, his talk was formed by the most part of his collection of car mascots & collectibles.
He was extremely interesting and left most of us wanting more! James brought along many of his collection of mascots and even handed most of them round for us all to look at! One of his favourites is a large Lalique glass dragonfly which would have been illuminated at night (see picture). After answering many questions we gave him a donation for the museum and we promised to have him back again to talk to us on another topic soon.
It was fitting we had a motoring theme as we will be having our first Classic Car Show on August 12th.
not long now, Eddie!
Visit to Siam Teppanyaki in Chester.
No sooner has President Barry’s year begun than our Club member, Gareth Willians, organized a wonderful social event involving seven Club members and their Ladies on a visit to Chester to try out a meal at the Siam Teppanyaki on City Road.
For those who haven’t tried this style of eating out before, it takes the form of a Japanese meal with a Cabaret included, where the Cabaret Artist is the Chef who prepares your meal in front of you as you sit around his “Cooking Range” where he entertains everyone with his skills as a juggler, comedian, pyromaniac and Chef.
There were, as you would expect, a variety of meals available ranging from Starters of Sushi, Sashimi, Tempura or Soups and then on to the Main Courses of Teppanyaki or Yakisoba, which are cooked to include your own choice of meats, game or seafood.
As can be seen from our photo, it was felt that the Chef had done such a wonderful job that a group photo was in order, with Vince being so impressed that a change in career might be in the offing!
By the way Paz, how about buying Don a Diary, as his memory is beginning to falter!
