President Barry's Year

Beer TastingFellowship & Social - Beer Tasting

At our Meeting on July 26th, our Fellowship & Social Committee under new management, organised a light hearted beer tasting with six different ales and a cider!

With the help & knowledge of our own Wobbly Bob, (Roy Wallwork), and the Chairman of the committee Fred Bishop, gave us the beers to taste with the help of some of the gathered few, including a guest!

What has probably come out of this tasting is the fact that we now know which ones to avoid, when we are looking for something different!!

Already looking forward to the next one!

Our 1st New Member this Presidential Year.

John Butler Induction

Once again, our Club’s concerted efforts in recruiting New Members into the Club has proved successful.

At our Dinner meeting held on Thursday the 2nd of August, it was with the greatest of pleasure that Bill Aukland formally presented John Butler to all present. He advised that he was pleased to have been able to introduce his friend and neighbour, John, to our Club and it’s activities and commend John to those present as he considers that he will be an attribute to our Club, -- especially to our Clay Target Shooting Team!

Due to the absence of our President, it was left to VP1 Adrian Baxter to induct John into the Club as a member and present him with hisMembership Badge, our Club’sYear Book andRotary District 1280’s Directory.

Following his induction into the Club, John thanked all for supporting his application to join the Club and advised he was looking forward to quickly becoming involved in future Club projects and initiatives.

John is the 13th New Member to have been brought into our Club in the past 27 months, which by any standards is a fantastic recruitment effort.

Clearly pleased and relieved to now be a member of our Club, John, the taller of the two is seen here with our slightly shorter VP1 Adrian.

John --- Welcome to Our Club and to Rotary.

Motor Show 2007

Motor Show 2007.

At 10am on Sunday the 12th of August, our Club's inaugural Motor Show opened to the public at Sutton Fields, Sutton Weaver.

The day itself was blessed, for the major part, with fine weather although on two brief occasions the vagaries of the English Summer were experienced!

Following much hard work by our Club's organizers, we were pleased to have a total of 104 Vehicles entered for the Motor Show and this fine and diverse display was viewed with great interest by some 1500 visitors to the ground.

It is pleasing to note that the day itself, was not restricted to the pure enthusiasts, but Young Families and Children's Organizations were encouraged with free entry for the under 12's along with the provision of Fairground Rides and Attractions, with Candy Floss being an optional extra that was available for all to buy!

The Motor Show itself featured four different Categories of Entries, these being Classic Cars, American Cars, Special Interest Vehicles with Custom & Modified Cars, and finally a Non-Judged Section.

With entrants being drawn from far and wide from both Individual Enthusiasts and Car Clubs alike, the competition for Show Prizes was, as expected, intense and honourably competitive.

Following the judging of all of the Entries, the Trophies were presented by our two Special Guests, Richard Sproston, a former Formula Ford driver and current Commentator at Oulton Park, and Dave MacIntyre the AA Patrol Man of the Year.

And now to the results: Our three Category Winners were:-

  • Classic Cars - 1969 Jensen Interceptor Mk1, owned by Paul Lee of Halewood.
  • American Cars - 1958 Oldsmobile Super 88, owned by Barry Cunliffe of Bolton.
  • SIV with C&M Cars - 1978 Ford Capri Mk3, owned by Colin Brick of Birkenhead.

However, the Car taking the coveted prize 'Spirit of the Show' was the wonderful 959 Vauxhall Cresta PA owned by Roy Gaskill of Carrington, who, as can be seen from the photograph, is clearly pleased with his award from Richard & Dave.

In support of the above, we are also pleased to mention that in attendance to make the Motor Show provisions complete were several Trade Stands which represented a variety of Local and National Services Providers and Motoring Organizations that were only too keen to show off their wears.

Prior to the formal closing of the event, it was with great pleasure that our Club's principal organizer, Eddie Basnett-Briscoe, thanked all the Entrants for bringing along their cars and also those who had attended. Without their support there would have been no Motor Show. He also thanked Angela Peattie, Tourism Manager at Vale Royal Borough Council, for her help and sponsorship. Finally he confirmed to all present that following the clear success of this year's event, members of our Club would be working hard to make next year's Motor Show even better.
