President Hedley's Year

Youth Speaks!

Youth Speaks!Youth Speaks! The District final of Youth Speaks was held at Forest Hills Hotel on Monday 28th of February. This is a Public Speaking competition designed for Secondary Schools for teams of three, a Speaker, Chairperson and Vote of Thanks. This year for the first time the competition has been split into two age groups, Intermediate, 11-14 and Senior, 15-18.

The event was opened by President Hedley and the rules were outlined by Rtn Brian Henshaw. Three experienced judges gave freely of their time to provide the serious part of the proceedings. They were Chris Davidson, Jon Symes and David Maynard.

Six Schools presented and after a close fought competition the teams from Westleigh High School and St Marys team 1 went through to the regional final in Preston on March 6th. The District Governor Rtn David Ainsworth gave the Vote of Thanks to round off a super evening.

The national final is in Lincoln on 7th May.

Many thanks to Rtns Harry Smallman, Richard Brook, Sam Williams, Frank Queenan, and Don Patterson for their help on the night.

Ladies Night

Ladies Night

For many years our Club has held a Ladies Night Dinner Dance and this year was no exception. On Saturday the 16th of April President Hedley welcomed 70 Club members, their Ladies and Guests to Frodsham Golf Club for this event.

The delicious 4 course dinner was followed by a "Toast To The Ladies" which was proposed by our VPI Tony Cervenka. His presentation involved talking about Sexy Numbers (which despite protestations included Prime Numbers) and those chosen by all present were then hung on the Ziegfried Line which was ably constructed on the evening by Roy Wallwork, Richard Brook and a piece of yellow rope!

LadiesIn response, the Presidents Lady, Rosanne let us into carefully selected secrets (this is a way of saying she modestly missed out all the juicy bit's) of how she first met Hedley and how over time, their relationship blossomed.

Despite the music finishing on the stroke of midnight, the enjoyment continued for some time afterwards and it was left to Sam Williams, our Toastmaster for the evening, to ensure that all the Ladies left with their respective escorts, who by now were singing praises to their Ladies and gently swaying in the early morning breeze!
