President Hedley's Year

Present BowlsClub Bowls Tournament.

On Thursday the 26th of May, Club members visited Sutton Fields for the Annual Club Bowls Tournament where Barbara Ford and her staff made us feel most welcome.

The event was very well attended by quality players, who had honed themselves to peak perfection, having trained long and hard for this eagerly awaited evening.

The climax to the event was by design, the Final, which this year featured Brian Henshaw along with Don Paterson and Sam Williams.

The assembled throng were treated to a display of bowling, the like of which has never been seen for many a long year. Eventually however, Sam overcame his two worthy opponents to register a fine win.

Our pictures show the  finalists prior to them doing battle, balls in hand, ready and primed and after the meal, President Hedley handing over the Tournament Shield to the victor Sam Williams.

We can hardly wait for next year!

Champion Again!

Car Boot Sale at Sutton Fields.

Car Parking

Once again an early start was the order of the day as we managed the Car Boot Sale on Monday the 30th of May at Sutton Fields. As with previous years it was necessary to have a full team of Club members ready for work at 6.00am as by that time approximately 20 Car Boots and a similar number of Buyers were ready and waiting to do business and Barbara Ford and her daughter Debbie were keen to get the show on the road.

On the day, 22 Club members helped with Car Boot Stall parking, general car parking and of course the collection of Donation Money. Also our Club had a stall which once again was manned by a quality Sales Team and proved very profitable! In all 347 Car Boot Stalls attended and our Hon. Treasurer Frank has confirmed that the event raised just over £2400. It was a very long day however but the weather remained kind and there was much to be enjoyed as can be seen on the photo which was taken early doors before the place was filled with bargain hunters.

Chester Races

Chester Races.

On Tuesday the 7th of June a group of 23 of us went along to the Ladies Evening at Chester Racecourse, and everyone remembered to bring along the Badges that David Roaf had organized, so entry onto the course was not a problem. One of our party, who shall remain nameless, was not wearing a tie and so Peter Holland was consigned to the Paddock enclosure where he, along with many others in our party, took full advantage of the Champagne Tent.

The weather was warm and sunny and as you would expect all the Ladies at the Racecourse that day looked resplendent in their Flamboyant Hats, Designer Outfits and Matching Accessories. How do they manage walk in high heels on the grass and yet look so elegant?

Fortunes varied as far as backing the Gee-Gees was concerned, however some winners were backed so it wasnt  a resounding victory for the Bookies even though several of us were more successful in backing horses that finished last!
