The 10th Annual RIBI Clay Target Shoot
Once again our Club was pleased to run the Clay Target Shoot at Catton Hall Shooting Ground here in Frodsham on Friday the 3rd of June. This particular shoot was special in that it was the 10th successive year that this event has been staged and over this period the Shoot has raised some £10,000 for Rotary Foundation.
On the day we were pleased to host some 60 Rotarians, who represented 15 Rotary Clubs, along with 25 Guests. With the weather conditions being favourable, the standard of shooting was very high and it seemed that everyone enjoyed the various challenges that the 12 different stands had to offer. In short, a good day shoot was had by all. The event was closed by President Hedley, who thanked Martin and his family along with all those Club members who helped on the day.

The Story of a Geordie Pilot's War.
The North East of England and Normandy took centre stage at our Clubs meeting on Thursday the 16th of June when our IPP Mike Collins gave a presentation based on his father, Jack Collins DFC & Bar, and his time as an ace Typhoon Pilot in The Second World War.
Joining us for this
special presentation were our Ladies and so with great care Mike took
us all on a journey from 1913 through the troublesome times of the
Second World War. At this time Jack Collins led Squadrons of long range
Hawker Hurricane and Hawker Typhoon fighter bombers (Bombphoons and
Rockphoons) with
3 Squadron and 245 Squadron flying from bases in southern England and Normandy, until his death south of Caen in August 1944.
Mike had researched most of the detail of his fathers work over the last 15 years and the presentation contained film excerpts obtained from various museums, along with references to the accounts of the veterans of those intense days of aerial battles.
The presentation ended with a question and answer session and in closing the evening President Hedley thanked Mike for providing such a wonderful insight into his familys private life, which at times, covered the most poignant of moments.
Mike received a cheque for £50 from our Club along with £50 collected from those present on the night. This money will be passed onto the British Legions Appeal which is called The Nations Biggest Thank-you for Victory in 1945.
Seen here is Mike proudly showing off the DFC & Bar Medal.
