President Hedley's Year

Frodsham & Helsby Rotary Club have been supporting local fund raiser Lance Yates to collect money to buy equipment to treat Prostate cancer. When Lance was diagnosed with this cancer he found that patients had to travel to Leeds to be treated with the most up to date equipment, so he campaigned for funds to make the treatment available locally. Frodsham & Helsby contributed monies from various events including a sponsored walk round the Oulton Park racing circuit.

£300,000 has now been raised to purchase both Cryotherapy and Brachytherapy equipment that kill the cancer by a freeze thaw technique and by planting radioactive seeds in the prostate. This equipment is now available at the Urology Department of Clatterbridge Hospital on the Wirral.

President Hedley was invited to the opening ceremony performed by Mike Hall MP and Mr N J Parr consultant Urologist at Clatterbridge Hospital.

Saturday Night is CASINO Night

EatingAs part of our ongoing celebration of 100 years of Rotary, Saturday the 18th of June saw us enjoy an evening at the gambling tables at Catton Hall Shooting Lodge. Some 15 Club members and their wives were joined by a similar number of Rotary guests on a wonderfully warm and sunny evening.

The event began with a few drinki-poos whilst waiting for everyone to arrive. This was followed by a BBQ meal of prime steak, chicken, burgers, sausages which were accompanied by new potatoes, salads, pickles, sauces, bread etc. etc. etc.

Casino Not stopping there, a sweet of fresh strawberrys, with or without cream, followed. Once consummately replete, everyone moved inside to the gaming area where they purchased their chips or gaming money and then slowly but surely they tried their luck at the various tables. As the evening progressed, the Professionals amongst us began to stand out such as Heather Faulkner and Tony Cervenka on the Craps table with Paz Paterson and Rosanne Greaves at the more vocal Black Jack table.

In contrast, the more gentile Roulette table saw stunning performances from Les and Joan Cottrell and Joshua Mann.

The evening ended with President Hedley thanking Martin, Theresa, family and staff for their hard work that evening, with special thanks to the Gaming Table Managers.

After wishing everyone a safe journey home, Hedley presented Ann Barchin with her prize for being the TOP GAMBLER on the evening.

The Stress of it All!

The personal pressures of attending one of our Clubs meeting was all too much for one of our members, to the extent that he found it necessary to get in touch with his feminine side.

Granted it was a warm evening and passions were running high, but who would have thought that this sort of behaviour was on the agenda?

Sam Williams, a Past President no less, is seen here showing off the latest, and most exciting additions to his accessory collection, a matching Tie and Handbag all designed to complement the sparkling earring in his left ear!

Is there anything else we should know Sam?
