President Hedley's Year

Charity Golf Match

Golf Day It was with great pleasure that on Thursday the 30th of June our Club once again held its Charity Golf Day at Helsby Golf Club. As a direct result of some sterling work done by Frank Queenan and Peter Holland, the two main Drivers of this event (excuse the intended pun), we were able to field a total of 15 Teams of 4 players.

It is important that we mention the fact that 5 of these Teams were either Sponsored or Hosted by Club members, these being Tony Cervenka, Alan Gardner, Peter Holland, Martin Mann and Sam Williams - Thank You Gentlemen.

As with previous years, the smooth running of the Golf Tournament was due to the work of a team of helpers, and this year 10 of our Club members gave their time to ensure that all went according to plan. Apart from a short burst of rain the event was blessed with fine weather and this, coupled with a wonderfully prepared golf course and putting green, ensured a very good days sport was had by all.

The event closed, as is tradition, with a Dinner at which 84 Players, Guests and Club Members sat down to a wonderfully prepared and presented 3 course meal. There then followed the presentation of the various prizes to the winners by President Hedley. This year however, the awards were made more poignant with the inaugural presentation to the Winning Team of The Alan Fozard Memorial Trophy which is in honour of and in memory to Alan, a sadly missed member of our Club who died last October. He will be remembered by many of us for his love of golf and his unstinting support to the Rotary cause.

And Then There Were SIX!

Rtn Alan LairdDue to prior business commitments, the induction of Alan Laird into the Club along with the 5 other New Members on Thursday the 12th of May was not possible. Hence it was necessary to arrange, if at all possible, his induction in what remained of President Hedleys year in office.

It was therefore with great pleasure, and relief, that at the Clubs Handover Dinner held on Thursday the 7th of July the very last official duty for the President to perform in his year of office was that of inducting Alan into the Club.

Our photograph shows Alan, alongside his sponsor Richard Brook, being welcomed into the Club by President Hedley.
